This week was a busy week for us. However, it was an amazing one. We have new things happening all over the farm. No matter in what area, from the produce, to the rabbits, to our construction. I have great news to share with you as well. Make sure you read all the way through.
As far as the produce, the melons in the melon patch are starting to show their bright yellow flowers for the first time. This always makes me happy because we are on the right track to have some beautiful huge tasty melons. In our melon patch we have several varieties of melons. We have planted Sugar Baby, Carolina Cross, and Crenshaw watermelons. We will have cantaloupe as well. The peas, peppers, squash, cucumbers and sweet potatoes are still thriving as well.
Farming is a lot of work. A big part of it is having those structures built so we can house/raise more animals. We have been working hard for the next phase of our construction to finally get some chickens on the farm. You’ve guessed it! We are working on building a chicken coop which will have a brooder inside. This chicken coop made from pallets will be approximately 12 feet high, 20 feet long and 10 feet wide. Can you say breathing room? This chicken coop will be able to hold up to 100 chickens at one time. Before we can actually put up the chicken coop the ground needed to leveled. Thank God for the box blade attachment that goes on the tractor. It has made this process go faster.
Guess what family?! Greg was feeding the rabbits on the morning of June 3rd, Thursday. To our surprise, we have a few new additions that we were able to observe. That’s right, the first birth on ITAV Fam Farm y’all!! Via our research, we are suppose to wait a few days before we reach in the hutch to interact with them. We also be able to give a more accurate count of the new and first litter of baby bunnies (kits) on the farm. How exciting is that?
I want to thank all of you for visiting our website and first entry post.
Peace, Love, & Happiness,
It Takes A Village Family Farm
